Monotype print depicting the "Lined Seahorse".
American slang term "lined" refers to when individuals of a group line up to inflict abuse, pain or physical damage to another individual. Societies which have developed a negative attitude towards certain types of people, whether it be from racial identity, religious affiliations, immigration status, political party membership, can find their population brewing a hatred through the reinforcement of each other's negative opinions. This can easily lead to group violence. Targeted individuals not only feel the physical pain, but also must live with being shamed for their uniqueness.

"the Women" Series
"the WOMEN" represents a series of emotional depictions of trauma suffered by women and 'women children' (those children who have borne trauma on an adult scale) and the strength that shines through their experiences. In the title, the non-capitalized word "the" represents the discounting of the worth of each individual woman by her oppressor, torturer, betrayer. The all-capitalization of the word "WOMEN" represents the strength, courage and resilience born inside each of us to rise up, overcome, recover and move beyond the pain. The simplicity of graphite on paper leaves bare and raw, the emotions exhibited on the face and in the body tension. The frenetic abstract backgrounds represent dyskenetic transmission of brain activity that occurs with emotional trauma. |
